Hindustan Motors (HM) is expecting a fall in sales for its mid-size premium segment car, Lancer. The company expects to close this fiscal with a sales figure of 3,000 units, compared with 4,500 units in 2002-03. According to HM chief general manager - marketing K Chandran, the fall was mainly due to competition from Toyota's Corolla and Chevrolet Optra.
Addressing the media at the launch of Lancer variant Invex 1.8 in the city, Mr Chandran said, "We expect a better sales performance for the Lancer next fiscal to be further boosted by the new model." The company aims to sell 5,000 units in 2004-05, of which 1,500 would be the Invex, he said. HM is also increasing its distribution network from 38 dealers at present to around 55 in the next one year, he added. |
