Hindustan Motors’ Uttarpara Plant Resumes Normalcy
New Delhi, May 10, 2007

Subsequent to the agreement signed on 9th May’07 between the workers’ Unions and HM Management, work has resumed at the Uttarpara plant of Hindustan Motors in the Hooghly district of West Bengal. This plant manufactures the Ambassador Car.

80% attendance of workforce has been reported since the opening of the plant. Which is higher than the average attendance reported around this time of the year when most workers plan their annual leave? Production of Ambassador Car has resumed and is expected to gather full stream in the next 48 hours.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Moloy Chaudhry, Executive Vice President HM, Uttarpara Plant and representatives of three registered Trade Unions.

  • Peace in and around the premises has been assured by the Unions.

  • Management has agreed for a dialogue with the registered trade unions to look into their demands.

  • Disbursement of a loan to the workers is being worked upon to help them ease their immediate financial pressure.

  • The Management will review the suspension order of 30 odd workers with a lenient view, on a case to case basis.

The ‘Suspension of operations’ at the plant was effected from 11th April 2007.
